CURRENT NEWSLETTER

May 2016

The May campout was held on May 13-15 at Peculiar RV Park in Peculiar, MO.  There were 5 member rigs present along with 3 visitors.
We welcome "potential new members":  Larry & Cathy Burrell; T & Kate Blackmore; and Harry & Della Pennington.

On Friday, we were met with a small rain shower, but it did not dampen any spirits!  Following set up, we traveled into town for dinner at Denny's and had a very enjoyable meal together.  We rounded the evening out with our usual game of pitch with the men winning one and the women winning one - so we split the wins this time!

Saturday morning brought on a fine breakfast of biscuits and gravy along with fruits, breads, etc provided by the members.  The hosts provided ham for dinner along with a lot of sides and desserts added to it.  As usual...we had plenty to eat and boy did we eat...no one left hungry!  The evening activities included Rummikub and Rummy.  A good time was had by all!  Lots of visiting and resting being done...

NEXT CAMPOUT:  June 17 - 19 at Pony Express RV Park outside of Maysville, MO.  The hosts will be Smith / Hedgpeth.  Breakfast will be breakfast burritos and something will be smoked for dinner (not sure exactly what yet).  Members are asked to provide sides and/or desserts.  This outing will be mostly outside, so don't forget your lawn chairs and sunscreen.  We're hoping to have some "musical entertainment" on Saturday...cross your fingers that it will all work out!

Missouri State RV Rally (formerly known as Samboree):  This will be here before we know it - September 22-25 at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia.  This was a lot of fun last year and it is our hope that several more members will be able to make it this year.  Mark your calendars now!

December 2015

We met at Golden Oaks on December 12, 2015 with 8 members represented.  We also had several visitors.

We were treated to pizza which was purchased by the club.  Members brought in sides and lots of goodies for dessert.

During the meeting, it was decided to remain meeting at Golden Oaks during the winter months and to move the meetings to the third Saturday of each month.  It was also decided that the hosts would only be responsible for making sure that everything was set up and coffee/tea made.  The rest (including any meat dishes) would be "pot-lucked".  If the host wants to do something special as an entree, they will contact everyone else via phone or email.

A monetary collection was received to give to the Salvation Army and as a gift to Golden Oaks for allowing us to use their building.

Everyone has agreed to remain in their current office for another year:  Anna Hedgpeth, President; Barbara Hoton, Vice President; Shirley Carey, Secretary/Treasurer; Linda Norris, Back Up Sec/Treas; and Paul Douglas, Wagon Master.

A gift exchange was done with nine men and ten women participating.

The next meeting will be on January 16, 2016 at Golden Oaks at 11:00 am.  Host will be Carey/Riddle.  The dinner fare will be pot luck.

The November pot luck and meeting was held on November 14, 2015 at Golden Oaks.  The hosts for the event were Douglas/Gallion and we were treated to traditional Thanksgiving fare.  Other members present provided lots of sides and desserts to compliment the meal.  As usual…no one went away hungry.

There were 8 members present as well as many visitors and a monetary collection was taken up to be given to the City Union Mission.  There were some items brought in and offered up to “go to a new home” – including pins, patches, flags, photos, etc.  Many items did indeed go home with new owners.  Updates were given concerning Samboree and also the last camp out.

The December meeting will be held on December 12, 2015 at Golden Oaks.  This will be our Christmas gathering and we will have a gift exchange (if you wish to participate).  Women are to bring a gift for a woman and men bring for a man…$5.00 limit or less.  The club will purchase pizzas for the main course and members are asked to bring a side and/or dessert to go along with it.

October 2015

The October campout was held on October 16-18, 2015 at Great Escape RV Park in Higginsville, MO.  We had 7 rigs represented in attendance.

Those who arrived early enough on Friday went into town and had a wonderful dinner together at a Russian restaurant.

Saturday morning, we met for a breakfast of biscuits and gravy along with various fruits, etc that were provided by members.  The meeting followed.  Updates were made to the roster in preparation for sending it into the state office and the "host" sheet was passed around to sign up to host future gatherings.

Late afternoon brought out the cards for pitch.  The women started out strong by winning the first game, but the men rallied and took the second one tying it up.  We took time out from cards to begin the prep work for dinner.

The main course for dinner was ham and scalloped potatoes.  Lots of other "goodies" were provided by the members.  Lots of delicious food followed by full bellies!  Great food and great fellowship!

The second round of pitch came with the women taking the win on the tie breaker, but the men insisted on another game which they won.  So the evening finished with a tie of two to two.  The women are on the rise and may start winning more - are the men afraid?  Probably not...

Sunday morning brought breakfast with more biscuits and gravy, fruits, etc.  Following breakfast came clean up, pack up and the "see ya laters".. This was the last campout for the season.  The next meeting will be a potluck gathering at Golden Oaks.  Doors will open at 10 am, meeting at 11 am and lunch is planned for around noon.  See you there!

Samboree 2015

Samboree was held on September 24-27, 2015 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO.  We had a total of 3 rigs represented in attendance.

Thursday brought registration, visiting vender booths, Bean Bag Baseball and the opening ceremonies.  Numerous states were represented in attendance with a parade of state flags.  While Missouri was the largest group, Oklahoma was definitely the loudest - Missouri will need to step up our game for next year.  The evening musical entertainment was brought by Jeff Gordon (the entertainer...not the driver).  He shared a mixture of oldies and country music.

Friday morning began bright and early with coffee and donuts.  Our chapter was responsible for the score keeping for the Bull Toss game.  We had 20 men show up to play, but only 8 women...which led us to believe that the men are definitely more interested in "slinging the bull" around the campsite.  This theory was also "proven" by the fact that the men's scores were much higher than the womens.  But...fun was had by all who participated.  Many other activities continued throughout the day, including an ice cream social and the Missouri 500 Hot Wheel Derby.  The evening festivities began with an introduction and parade of the chapter flags for those chapters in attendance and closed out with a fantastic concert by "Marie Rose and Danny Elswick".

Saturday morning began again with more coffee and donuts (Good Sams folk sure do like to eat) and a Flea Market/Craft Sale.  There were also several games and a pet parade to fill the afternoon along with awards and raffle winners being announced.  Early evening brought a Devotional and Special
Tribute to Deceased Chapter Members. Following the closing ceremony was a delightful night of entertainment by John Sager who keep everyone on their toes with his lively music.

After a restful night, Sunday morning brought "pack up and get ready to head home" day.  Samboree is over and we must head back home....until next year!

The 2016 Missouri State RV Rally (note the name change) will be held on September 22 - 25, 2016 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO.  The theme for 2016 will be "Sweet Land of Liberty".

September 2015

The September camp out was held on Sept 11-13 at Great Escapes RV Park in Higginsville, MO  We had 7 rigs represented.  The location had been changed due to a "glitch" with the KOA at Oak Grove.

Those who arrived early enough on Friday went in to a restaurant in Higginsville for dinner - reports indicated that it was an excellent meal.  Pancakes, eggs, & sausage were the main fair for breakfast along with fruits and breads.  Our meeting followed the meal with some new potential camping locations being discussed.  The afternoon was spent with some resting, shopping and card playing.  The evening meal brought a "cook out" with grills set up for hotdogs, italian sausages, and hamburgers being cooked.  Numerous items were added to compliment the meal.  Like always - we were well "stuffed".

The evening brought more card playing and visiting.  The men started out strong, but the women were finally able to rise out of the ashes and take the final win.  Since the "last win" is all that some of us are going to count - the women were victorious for the evening!!

August 2015

The August camp out was held on Aug 21-23, 2015 at Cozy Corner RV Park just south of Clinton, MO.  We had 7 rigs represented.  The hosts for the weekend were Norris/Douglas.

Once everyone arrived and had set up camp, we traveled into Smiths Restaurant in Clinton for supper.  Upon return to camp, a pleasant evening was spent playing games and watching baseball (Royals, of course).  Saturday morning brought us a fantastic breakfast of biscuits and gravy along with countless other goodies provided.  Following clean up and our monthly meeting, several decided to make a trip to visit Osceola Cheese (lots of tasting and buying - yum).  The afternoon was spent with visiting, naps and just relaxing.  The evening meal brought us a fabulous brisket along with lots of other goodies (and lots of yummy desserts).  One thing that we're really good at....eating!!!! As usual - no one left hungry.

More games (Rummikub and Pitch) took place on Saturday evening as well as more baseball watching.  The women put up a good battle during pitch, but alas...the men won again...  Maybe next time, ladies!

June 2015

The June camp out was held on June 12-14, 2015 at Pony Express RV Park just outside of Maysville, MO.  We had 4 rigs represented.  Tom & Jan Smith hosted along with Anna & Jr Hedpgeth.

On Friday evening, Tom built a nice cozy fire in which we roasted hotdogs and brats to eat along with all kinds of other "goodies" put together by those present.  We also had a nice visit by Art & Nancy who joined us around the fire.  Saturday morning brought us Breakfast Burritos (and other goodies) to start off our day.  Shortly after breakfast, Tom fired up the smoker and put some pork butt in to cook.  He tempted us several times throughout the day, by opening the door and letting us smell it while he turned the meat or added more wood chips.  Needless to say, we were more than ready for it by suppertime and boy oh boy was it yummy!  Lots of other goodies were added to the meal and as usual, no one went away hungry.  The general consensus seemed to be that Tom needed to take over all the cooking from now on, however he failed to commit himself either way.

Since the weather forecast indicated rain ALL weekend, back-up arrangements were made to use the meeting room for our meals, etc.  However, ole Mother Nature decided to be nice and we didn't have to use it.  Thanks to a generous donation of a canopy by Vern & Shirley, we had plenty of cover to "weather out" the few small rain showers that came around on Saturday and Sunday.

No cards were played this weekend, so the women didn't get a chance to redeem their loss to the men last month.  Instead, everyone had a nice and relaxing time "just visiting".  It was a very peaceful weekend even though the camp ground was pretty full.

NEXT CAMP OUT:  July 9-11, 2015 @ Arrowhead at Osceola, MO.  Hosts will be Hedgpeth / Heller.  Please contact Wagon Master, Paul Douglas @ (816) 260-5422 to let him know if you will attending.

REMINDER:  Dues are now due!!  If you have not yet paid and intend to do so, please contact Treasurer, Shirley Carey as soon as possible to get it taken care of.

May 2015

The May camp out was held on May 1-2, 2015 at the Peculiar RV Park in Peculiar, MO.  We had 5 rigs represented.  Vern & Shirley Carey hosted and provided an Egg Casserole for breakfast and Chicken Enchiladas for dinner ( which were both very yummy).  The rest of both meals were "pot-lucked" and as usual, everyone had more than enough to eat and definitely did not go away hungry.

The pitch games were won by the men - cheating was suspected, although no proof could be found to support the charge.  Since the men pitched in and assisted in working on some repairs on one of the rigs, we'll excuse their win for this month, however, the women will need to step up their game for next month.  At any rate...a good time was had by all in attendance.

We had a nice refreshing rain shower early on Saturday morning, but became only lingering clouds by the time everyone arose for the day.  There were "rumors" about a few drops of rain later in the day, but were "explained away" as random birds flying over.

NEXT CAMP OUT:  June 12-13, 2015 at the Pony Express RV Park outside of Maysville, MO.  Please contact Wagon Master, Paul Douglas @ (816) 260-5422 to let him know if you will be attending.  Tom & Jan Smith will be hosting.  Planned menu will be Breakfast Burritos for breakfast (sausage, bacon, hash browns, eggs, & tortillas will be provided), please bring your favorite toppings [i.e. salsa, onions, shredded cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc] along with anything else you'd like to add to the meal.  Dinner will be Pulled Pork (pork, buns/bread & BBQ sauce will be provided), please bring your favorite side to accompany the meal.
